Description of the training Penal and criminal responsibility in OHS in Quebec

Description of the training

Since 2004, the Bill C-21 amendment to Canada’s Criminal Code has made it easier to prosecute organizations and individuals who disregard workplace health and safety rules. The law holds them accountable when negligent acts result in serious bodily injury or death.

‍

Developed in collaboration with renowned labour lawyers from Fasken Martineau, this online OHS course provides information on the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers regarding occupational health and safety, both at the provincial and federal levels, as well as the sanctions they face in the event of non-compliance.

‍

After completing this course, participants will be familiar with the scope, structures and mechanisms of the Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety (AROHS). They will also understand the difference between the notions of risk and danger, thus reducing the risks associated with each task. This online health and safety course also details the various responsibilities that employers and employees must fulfill in order to safeguard their own safety and that of their colleagues.

‍

Managers will be made aware of the various consequences and fines they may face, as well as the aggravating or mitigating factors that may impact the amount of the fine and penalty, in the case of non-compliance.
