Summertime outings allow children to learn about their surroundings and burn energy. To ensure that these outings take place safely, it is important to be aware of various principles for protecting both the children and their educators.

This online OHS course describes places that are commonly visited during outdoor walks and provides tips on using different types of equipment. After completing this health and safety course, participants will be able to select the correct shoe for the task and will understand the differences between different styles. Tips are provided for placing children in the miniwagon (Pouponbus), as are guidelines for its safe operation.

Participants will be able to recognize the different outdoor risks they may encounter during outings, such as ticks, giant hogweed and poison ivy. Methods for handling and disposing of sharp objects that may be found in the outdoors will also be described in detail.

Educators will learn how to put away equipment while respecting ergonomic principles and to empty the wading pool without injuring themselves.
